WATERKEEPERS Chesapeake is a coalition of seventeen independent Waterkeeper programs working to make the waters of the Chesapeake and Coastal Bays swimmable and fishable. Members of Waterkeepers Chesapeake work locally, using grassroots action and advocacy to protect their communities and their waters. They work regionally to share resources and leverage individual organization strengths to expand the capacity of each Waterkeeper for on the water, citizen-based enforcement of environmental laws in the Chesapeake region.
American Whitewater is a national non-profit 501c(3) river conservation organization founded in 1954 with approximately 7,000 members and 85 local-based affiliate clubs, representing whitewater enthusiasts across the nation. American Whitewater’s mission is to protect and restore America’s whitewater rivers and to enhance opportunities to enjoy them safely.
The work of Potomac Riverkeeper Network spans the entire almost 15,000 square mile watershed which flows through four states (Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania) and the District of Columbia into the Chesapeake Bay. Their mission is to protect the public’s right to clean water in the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers and their tributaries. They stop pollution to enhance the safety of your drinking water, protect healthy river habitats, and enhance public use and enjoyment.
The Mayfly Project is a national organization that uses fly fishing as a catalyst to mentor and support children in foster care.During each project outing mentees learn that they can make a difference by leaving “positive prints,” whether it be properly handling fish, picking up trash, or by teaching others the importance of good stewardship.
